Minutes for Lutherans Reform! October 23, 2007

The meeting began with opening prayer led by Sally Gausmann.
In attendance were Paul Gausmann, Mark Billows, Tom Shelley, Kathy Lilley, Irv Eshenhour, Phil Kline, John Douglas, Sally Gausmann, and Bob Kitchen

Paul and John reviewed the Lindenhurst meeting – Bob Kitchen, John Douglas, Paddy Rooney and Paul Gausmann represented Lutherans Reform! This meeting was mainly to rally the troops. There is a need to get more lay people informed and involved. We are gearing up for the 2009 assembly. The confessional orthodox witness still very much needed because in the ELCA currently the social gospel trumping the gospel. We can not be sleeping on the job because Lutherans Concerned has a lot of money and is hard at work to promote their agenda. There are some signs of hope – some Bishops did speak up in support of the church process at churchwide assembly. But it is evident that it will take a lot of effort and organizing on our part and contact with the laity in order to make a difference for 2009.

We need synod coordinators to Lutheran CORE. We went over the qualifications and job description for synod coordinator – one pastor/one lay person – we need volunteers

Mark mentioned Larry’s presentation on the authority of scripture to the South York Conference of an example of how we can get more people interested and involved in the process.

We have a mailing list from synod now and would like to run a test run. Once we get our meeting dates for next year we can do this.

Please work on getting names for Nominations for the upcoming elections to churchwide and synod council.

Bob and Phil will represent us at the ELCF meeting at St. Michael Church in Hamburg north of Reading - November 3, 2007

A regional meeting of Lutheran CORE supporters will be held at Christ Lutheran in Dallastown – Nov. 14 – 10:30 – 2:00. Please come if you are able because this will help us to make contacts in Maryland and Virginia, bring a bag lunch.

Kathy gave an update on our WEB site – we lost the domain name – We will ask ELCF if we can use their name as part of our title. We would like to call our new site LR-ELCF.org. Bob will ask about this at the ELCF meeting. We will also connect our e-mails to this domain name. XL is the name of the web hosting.

Kathy passed around a copy of the brochure she is working on. Sally will send Kathy the mission statement to include in the brochure.

As part of our inclusion in ELCF we need by-laws and job description for officers. Tom will report back on this at the next meeting. Please be prepared to elect officers at that meeting.

Our next meeting will be December 11, 2007 1:30 at Saint Paul (Trinity Road) York and will be a working meeting for by-laws and officers. We are asking for a good attendance that day so that we can complete this important work.

Proposed Schedule for early 2008

February 26 – 7:00 p.m. Messiah Lebanon – tentatively
March 25 – 7:00 p.m. Saint Paul

Please get the word out to lay people who would like to be a part of our group we are having evening meetings next year to accommodate the schedules of lay people and we need more to join the efforts.

Respectfully Submitted,

Sally Gausmann, scribe
